MOTIVATION

-

How does technology play a role in art? The technology that used to be served only as a tool for creating actual artworks has become the main agent and produces artworks. Unlike A.I. Atelier using the existing style transfer algorithm, the AI artist is based on computer programming to compose content. The fact that other artists who are more familiar with the conventional art joined this project, strongly motivated me to participate in this exhibition. Although each artist worked individually and the outcomes are completely independent, there is one thing in common with outcomes from 4 artists; computing technology. Artists reflect contemporary times in the art.

Although the four of us are not representatives of our contemporary times, it is clear that we are leading it with technologies and reflecting it in the art at the forefront. For this reason alone, this exhibition is significant. When I heard about this exhibition, I was curious about how AI could explore and learn the art and how AI would bring it out in the world. The concept of collaboration which is by human conventional artists and an AI artist was a good enough reason for me to participate in this AIA project. Also, I wanted to experience the AI artist in person to get to know its actual ability.

PROCESS

-

For my artwork, 'Anonymous' was the keyword to feed AI. I usually use photographs to compose content but, I entirely relied on the computer this time. The quality of a digital image is determined by the number of pixels, that is, the density of pixels constructed in a two-dimensional plane. Looking at the result of low density, it made me think and ask questions.

What did the computer try to say? What would it like to express? The computer might be just a machine. Perhaps computers are thoughtless and thoughtlessly designed and implemented by humans with algorithms. However, they also think. What would humans be like from God's perspective? What if God designed and implemented our structure of thought? Ironically, I was able to keep up with this project because I couldn't get any clearly answer.

It doesn't matter whether the computer has a mind or not. What matters is the content image was produced by the keyword 'Anonymous' I chose. In the way of the previous work, I got the styles on the content image to express and transfer them. This is the way the artwork is created and Its title is 'Labeled: to give a name to'

MESSAGE FROM HER WORK

-

The message of this work is what viewers see and feel from 'Labeled: to give a name to'. Whose work style did AI do mapping? Is it really an outcome created by a computer? What role did the artist play? etc. In addition to questioning the relationship between technology and art, if you can ask yourself or the artist questions about the role or meaning of human beings, that is enough message I'd like to deliver from 'Labeled: to give a name to'.
